Just
Woke Up From A Dream
by
Brad Ryder
Verse 1: Not
so long ago, as I recall—early winter, perhaps the fall—
In
the waking hours of a chilly day, before we went to work we’d play.
I’d
hold your warmth next to my skin and shed a tear, but that was then:
When
I had you near, and I’d confess my only fear.
Chorus 1: I said I just woke up from a dream, a
dream I’ve had quite often;
Last night it came to
haunt me once or twice.
Just woke up from a
dream: my heart ached, for you had left me.
What pleasure now to
find you by my side.
Verse 2: Well
the nights were cold but spring came on; we tried harder then to be as strong.
Before
we went to work we’d play, while wishing for a holiday.
To
hold you close felt somehow strange; was it you, or did I change?
When
you said goodbye, I felt no need to cry.
Chorus 2: But I just woke up from a dream, a dream
I’ve had too often;
I fear that it may taunt
me from now on.
Just woke up from a
dream: we grew old in love together;
Now here I lie,
remembering you’re gone.
Bridge: Then
the nights grew short with summer here,
Little
hope survived that you’d appear.
I tossed
and turned, switched on the light,
And heard
you whisper, It’s all right. It’s all right.
Chorus 3: You said, I just woke up from a dream, a
dream I’ve had so often;
It touched an empty
place within my soul.
Just woke up from a
dream: all my days were filled with hollow;
The love I’ve found with
you can make them whole.
Tag: Just woke up from a dream, we nestle all
warm and serene;
What peace to wake from a dream and
find you.
