All the Good Tunes Are Taken
by Brad Ryder

Listen

Chorus:          I want to write songs about hearts breakin' ...
                       Souls achin' ...
Love-makin' ...
                       But all the good tunes are taken.

Verse 1:         (To the tune of "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry")
                       I’d like to put some words to this, a ballad soft and sad;
                       But it was handled by the best, and Hank didn’t do so bad.

Verse 2:         ("Green Green Grass of Home")
                       Well I know you’ve heard this song, such a classic for so long.

                       At sixteen it got me hooked on Cash and country.
                       Just three chords is all, it’s not too risky; still it always makes me misty.
                       Now can I do something half as strong?

(Repeat chorus)

Verse 3:         ("It's Only Make Believe")
                       Should somehow I compose the tune that fairly flows,

                       I’ll put it in a set that time won’t soon forget;
                       Till then I’ll string the notes and try to keep up hopes.
                       But as each day goes by, I can’t help wonder why

                       I don’t find that divine melody.

 Bridge:          ("Can't Help Falling In Love")
                       Surely as a chime ringing in the wind
                       Plays in six-eight time, I’ll sit to write again.

(Repeat chorus)

Verse 4:          ("Crazy")
                      Crazy, crazy for feeling so empty;
                      I’m crazy for thinking no answers will come.
                      With writers exploring their guitars and keyboards,
                      That’s part of the glamor, part of the clamor ...
                      There’s something that hasn’t been done.
